A Typhoon Warning is now in effect for Alamagan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides information and recommended action for people on Agrihan, Pagan and Alamagan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Typhoon Warning is now in effect for Alamagan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Pagan and Agrihan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. .STORM INFORMATION... At 100 PM ChST, 0300 UTC, the center of Typhoon Saudel was located near 18N146E just off the coast of Pagan. The system is moving northwest at 13 mph, with maximum sustained winds now to 100 mph near the center. It is expected to maintain this trajectory until after it makes landfall over Agrihan, to then slightly accelerate away through Sunday. Saudel is expected to further intensify the next few days, likely to become a category 3 typhoon before midnight tonight. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... The most destructive winds and intense rainfall are concentrated near the center of Saudel, likely producing these conditions over Alamagan, Pagan and Agrihan. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Residents of Alamagan, Pagan and Agrihan should remain in a protective shelter or inside a cave. During closest point of approach and passage of the eyewall, winds may momentarily drop significantly, to then return back to destructive conditions as the other side of the eyewall makes its way across. Wind threats are expected to remain the rest of the day, with a chance of significant improvement late tonight or Sunday morning as typhoon Saudel continues to move away from the Marianas to the northwest. .NEXT UPDATE... Northeast to east winds of 80 to 100 mph, may briefly drop in the next few hours for Agrihan as the eye passes over or near, with the winds shifting quickly to the west to southwest with winds of 80 to 100 mph and gusts to 130 mph as the other side of the eyewall makes an appearance. Winds should begin to diminish this evening as they turn south, falling below damaging levels possibly early Sunday morning. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION...
