BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR TONIGHT AND THE NEXT SIX (6) DAYS, ISSUED
BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT 6:00 P.M. EDT, Saturday,
August 22, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 6:00
A.M. EDT TOMORROW.

WARNING IN EFFECT: A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the entire
Bahamas as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands. Residents and
visitors across all areas, especially in the Northern and Northwest
Bahamas, should continue to remain hydrated, seek shaded areas and
restrict strenuous outdoor activity between peak hours (between 10 am
– 4pm).

GENERAL SITUATION: Shower and thunderstorm activity is expected to
continue over portions of the Northern Bahamas tonight into Sunday
due to a lingering troughing and its associated moisture. Meanwhile,
building high pressure continues to produce gentle to moderate winds
and seasonably warmer temperatures as a layer of Saharan dust aids in
drier and more stable conditions.

Outlook: Showers and thunderstorms are anticipated for the Northern
Bahama islands on Sunday, with the presence of Saharan dust limiting
the severe weather potential and area coverage. High pressure will
dominate the weather over the majority of the country, with hot and
humid conditions persisting as the frontal boundary migrates off the
US coastline by Monday. A pair of tropical waves will enter the
forecast area early next week, promoting increasingly cloudy and
slightly cooler conditions, while steadily reintroducing showers and
thunderstorms across the majority of the Bahamas throughout the week.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Severe Thunderstorm Risk: There is a slight to
moderate risk for a few isolated strong to severe thunderstorm
expected across portions of the Northern Bahamas. These storms are
capable of producing strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy
downpours, and waterspout activity. Therefore, the public is urged to
remain updated on all severe weather warnings issued by the Bahamas
Department of Meteorology.

Rip Currents: There is a slight to moderate risk of rip currents
affecting the eastern and southern shorelines of the Southeast
Bahamas. Beachgoers and swimmers are advised to exercise caution when
entering the water.

UV Index: Members of the public are advised to wear protective
clothing and sunscreen and seek shaded areas while outside during
peak sunshine hours (11am – 4pm), as UV indices are expected to be
in the high to extreme range.

Saharan Dust: The level of dust may reach moderate levels which may
impact air quality and hinder visibility at times across the
Northwest and portions of the Central Bahamas. Residents, especially
those with respiratory illnesses, should take precautions to
safeguard their health.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS
(INCLUDING GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, BIMINI & ADJACENT WATERS):

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK: There are currently three (3) areas of
interest being monitored at this time:
1) Northeastern Atlantic: A strong non-tropical area of low pressure
located over the northeastern Atlantic several hundred miles west of
the coast of
Portugal has a low (20%) chance of tropical cyclone formation during
the next 48 hours and continuing through the next seven days. This
system is anticipated to move toward Portugal and northwestern Spain
through the weekend.
2) Central Subtropical Atlantic: A trough of low pressure located
over the central subtropical Atlantic a few hundred miles east of
Bermuda is producing disorganized shower activity has a low (20%)
chance of tropical cyclone formation through the next seven days, as
the system drifts westwards through Sunday.
3) Eastern Tropical Atlantic: A tropical wave is expected to move off
the African west coast on Monday. This system will have a medium
(40%) chance of tropical cyclone formation through the next seven
days as it moves westwards across the tropical Atlantic.
