BAHAMAS PUBLIC FORECAST FOR THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT AND THE NEXT
SIX (6) DAYS, ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY AT
12:00 P.M. EDT, SATURDAY, AUGUST 22, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED
FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 6:00 P.M. EDT.

WARNING IN EFFECT: A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the entire
Bahamas as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands. Residents and
visitors across all areas, especially in the Northern and Northwest
Bahamas, should continue to remain hydrated, seek shaded areas and
restrict strenuous outdoor activity between peak hours (between 10 am
– 4pm).

GENERAL SITUATION: A prefrontal trough across South Florida has
trapped a pocket of moisture across the Northwest Bahamas. Unsettled
weather is across the northern part of the country will decrease into
the evening as another plume of Saharan Dust will move into the area.
Building high pressure is supporting gentle to fresh wind over the
archipelago and is maintaining a more stable atmosphere in the
Central and Southeast Islands.

OUTLOOK: Showers and thunderstorms will remain loosely confined to
the northern islands this weekend, with the presence of Saharan dust
limiting the severe weather potential and area coverage. High
pressure will dominate the majority of the country, with hot and
humid conditions persisting as the frontal boundary migrates off the
US coastline by Monday. A pair of tropical waves will enter the
forecast area early next week, promoting increasingly cloudy and
slightly cooler conditions, while steadily reintroducing showers and
thunderstorms across the majority of the Bahamas throughout the week.

SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES:
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM RISK: There is a slight to moderate risk for a
few isolated strong to severe thunderstorms across portions of the
Northern and Northwest Bahamas. These storms are capable of producing
strong gusty winds, frequent lightning, heavy downpours, and
waterspout activity. Therefore, the public is urged to remain updated
on all severe weather warnings issued by the Bahamas Department of
Meteorology.

RIP CURRENTS: There is a slight to moderate risk of rip currents
affecting the eastern and southern shorelines of the Southeast
Bahamas. Beachgoers and swimmers are advised to exercise caution when
entering the water.

UV INDEX: Members of the public are advised to wear protective
clothing and sunscreen and seek shaded areas while outside during
peak sunshine hours (11am – 4pm), as UV indices are expected to be
in the high to extreme range.

SAHARAN DUST: The level of dust may reach moderate levels which may
impact air quality and hinder visibility at times across the
Northwest and portions of the Central Bahamas. Residents, especially
those with respiratory illnesses, should take precautions to
safeguard their health.

NORTHERN BAHAMAS
(INCLUDING GRAND BAHAMA, ABACO, BIMINI & ADJACENT WATERS):

TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK:
1: Northeastern Atlantic: A strong non-tropical area of low pressure
located over the northeastern Atlantic has a low 20 percent chance of
formation through the next 7 days.
2. Central Subtropical Atlantic: A trough of low pressure located
over the central subtropical Atlantic east of Bermuda has a low 20
percent chance of formation through 7 days.
3. Eastern Tropical Atlantic: A tropical wave is expected to move off
the African coast on Monday. An area of low pressure could form along
the wave as it moves across the central tropical Atlantic through the
end of next week.
