EDT, TUESDAY, MAY 19, 2026. THE NEXT SCHEDULED FORECAST WILL BE ISSUED AT 6:00 P.M. EDT. WARNING IN EFFECT: There are no public warnings in effect at this time. GENERAL SITUATION: A broad mid to upper level low situated just northeast of the island chain will continue to draw moisture across the Central & portions of the Southeast Bahamas, maintaining an elevated chance of showers and a few isolated thunderstorms this afternoon through tonight. Meanwhile, a drier mass over the Northern Bahamas will support sunnier skies with lower rain chances. Moderate to fresh easterly breezes will prevail across the Bahamas supported by a ridge of high pressure. Outlook: The upper-level disturbance will meander in the vicinity of the Bahamas, with its center drifting across the Northern and Northwest Bahamas by midweek before being nudged one again over Atlantic waters on Friday. High pressure will gradually build into the area by the weekend, with occasional streaming showers in the easterly wind regime continuing through to next week. SPECIAL WEATHER NOTES: Flooding Risk: There is a slight risk of flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas during heavy or prolonged rainfall periods, particularly across portions of the Central Bahamas. Rip Currents: There is a moderate to high risk of rip currents on all east-coast and Atlantic coastal waters of the island chain. Swimmers are advised to exercise caution when entering these waters. Heat and UV Index: Residents across the Northern Bahamas and portions of the Northwest Bahamas are advised to remain hydrated, wear protective clothing and sunscreen and seek shaded areas while outside during peak sunshine hours today (11am – 4pm), as UV indices are expected to be in the very high range and heat indices can reach the upper 90’s.
