(This evening through Monday) Issued at 107 PM CDT Sun Aug 23 2026 Hot temperatures are once occurring across West Central Texas this afternoon, with highs already into the upper 90s or surpassing 100. Highs this afternoon will top out in the upper 90s to near 109. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Big Country, Concho Valley, and Heartland. Overnight lows will be in the 70s to lower 80s. An upper level ridge will be centered across southeast New Mexico on Monday. This will result in another hot and dry day across West Central Texas with highs well above seasonal normals. Highs will be in the upper 90s to near 109 across most of the area. A Heat Advisory was issued for much of the Concho Valley, Heartland and portions of the Big Country as temperatures reach or exceed 105. Portions of the northern Big Country may reach or exceed 110, so have issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Monday afternoon. && .LONG TERM... This will result in another very hot day across the area, with highs in the upper 90s to near 108. A heat Advisory will likely be needed for the Big Country and portions of the Concho Valley and Heartland. Wednesday and Thursday, the upper level ridge shifts a bit farther west. This will result in "less hot" temperatures, but temperatures will still remain well above seasonal normals. Highs on Wednesday will be in the upper 90s to near 104, with highs on Thursday in the mid 90s to near 102. West Central Texas will be on the eastern periphery of the ridge and the ECMWF and GFS are both indicating at least isolated to scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms developing Wednesday and Thursday.
