(Today and tonight) Issued at 1239 AM CDT Sun Aug 23 2026 Showers and a few thunderstorms continue to our east, but are also winding down late tonight. Expect this trend of diminishing coverage and intensity to continue through the rest of the early morning hours. For today, we will again warm up into the 105 to 110 degree range across areas roughly north of a Mertzon to Junction line, with upper 90s to near 105 for the rest of the area. With that in mind, the Heat Advisory in these areas will continue through tomorrow evening. Although we will approach the 110+ degree mark that warrants in an Extreme Heat Warning north of I-20, we aren't expecting to quite make it there, so will just keep the Heat Advisory going. Lows will continue to be very muggy, only dropping into the mid 70s to lower 80s, and winds will be out of the south at 5 to 15 mph. && .LONG TERM... Looks like will need Heat Advisories for much of next week across much of the area. Please follow heat safety precautions if you have to be outside during the afternoon hours. Highs will mainly range from the upper 90s to near 110, mainly across the Big Country, expecting to have the hottest temperatures. Also, mostly sunny skies will make it feel even hotter. There is a very low chance for a few showers and thunderstorms by the middle of next week. However, most of the area will remain dry through the long term. && .AVIATION...
