FXUS64 KSJT 221813 AFDSJT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service San Angelo TX 113 PM CDT Sat Aug 22 2026 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .KEY MESSAGES... - A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Big Country, Heartland and Concho Valley areas this afternoon and again on Sunday afternoon. - There is a low (15%-20%) chance for isolated to scattered thunderstorms, mainly across the Big Country, this afternoon and evening. - Hot and mainly dry weather will persist through next week. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Sunday) Issued at 111 PM CDT Sat Aug 22 2026 A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the Big Country, Heartland, and Concho Valley until 7 PM this evening. A cold front is stalled near the Red River. Isolated showers are occurring in the vicinity of the front. High resolution models are indicating an increase in shower and thunderstorm activity this afternoon as daytime heating occurs. This activity is then forecast to move south this evening, before dissipating by mid to late evening. Low end (15-20%) rain chances were continued across mainly the Big Country this evening. Any storms that do develop will have the potential of producing strong gusty winds. Overnight lows will be in the mid 70s to lower 80s. An upper level ridge is forecast to be centered across West Texas and southeast New Mexico on Sunday. This will result in a continuation of the above normal temperatures. Highs will be in the upper 90s to near 108. A Heat Advisory was issued for the Big Country, Concho Valley, and Heartland, where temperatures are forecast to reach or exceed 105 degrees. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday night through next Saturday) Issued at 111 PM CDT Sat Aug 22 2026 Very hot and dry conditions are forecast through the extended forecast through much of next week. An upper level ridge will remain centered across southeast New Mexico through the middle of the week. This will result in highs in the upper 90s to near 106 for much of the area, so Heat Advisories are likely for the Big Country, Concho Valley, and Heartland through at least the middle of next week. Portions of the Big Country, especially the northern counties, may reach 110 degrees Monday afternoon, so Extreme Heat Warnings may be needed. The aforementioned upper level ridge begins to slowly shift west by the end of next week, which may result in slightly "less hot" temperatures. Still, temperatures will continue to remain above normal, in the upper 90s to near 103. West Central Texas will be on the eastern periphery of the ridge late next week, as the upper level ridge shifts west. This may allow for the development of isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms late next week. For now, continued low end (15-20%) rain chances as confidence remains low. && .AVIATION...
