Meteorological conditions for extreme fire behavior are not anticipated during this forecast period. The monsoon plume is expected to be over the district through late this upcoming week/early next weekend. Thereafter, the mid level ridge flattens out and the flow become zonal across the western United States. This in turn will cut-off the monsoon flow and it will become drier and warmer across all of the district. Each day from today through late week will see scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms over the higher terrain with isolated to scattered storms over the plains. Some days will see a bit more activity while other days may see a bit less. Based on current model guidance, the best coverage for showers and storms will be mid week this week. It will also be a bit cooler during the mid week time period before it warms up next weekend. For today, we expect the showers and thunderstorms to develop, but the activity may occur a bit later than normal. Most of the activity today is expected to occur in the greater Pikes Peak region. Given that we will see showers and storms nearly each day, if a storm develops over the Aspen Acres burn scar, then flash flooding will be possible.
