Updated at 115 AM CDT Sun Aug 23 2026 - Hot temperatures continue through midweek with little to no chance of rain. - Drink plenty of fluids and seek shade frequently as heat illnesses due to prolonged exposure to heat may occur. && .SHORT TERM... (Today through Monday afternoon) Issued at 115 AM CDT Sun Aug 23 2026 Running out of ways to say it's going to be hot. Mid and upper ridging will continue to strengthen and center overhead over the next few days. This will bring a peak to the current heat wave early this week with nearly everyone over the 100 degree mark, outside of the mountains. The Heat Advisory will continue for the northeast zones today and will most certainly be extended in time as temperatures will only get hotter Monday/Tuesday. The heat risk remains in the "extreme" category so take precautions and limit time outdoors, especially in the afternoon. Precipitation chances remain nil the next couple of days. && .LONG TERM... (Monday night through Saturday) Issued at 115 AM CDT Sun Aug 23 2026 The ridge will begin to weaken slightly and shift west Tuesday/Wednesday, but not before another couple of very hot days. Northwesterly flow will develop aloft allowing storms that develop over northern NM to move toward the area late Wednesday. Confidence is slightly higher for more widespread coverage of storms so rain chances have increased to 30-40% for SE NM and the northern Permian Basin. More storms are possible Thursday which could keep temperatures under 100 for some locations, but won't pull the trigger on that yet. Drier conditions return late week with temperatures remaining well above normal. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 1034 PM CDT Sat Aug 22 2026 VFR conditions will prevail next 24 hours in weak return flow, w/a few high clouds. A few high-based cu are anticipated beginning late Sunday morning invof KMAF/KHOB. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
