A few showers are already ongoing across Shenandoah National Park. Expect additional showers and thunderstorms to move across the park through this evening. The most likely time for the heaviest shower and storms is between 7 PM to 10 PM, with additional thunderstorms lingering through 1 AM to 2 AM. Strong wind gusts of 50-60 mph, torrential downpours leading to flooding, and lightning strikes are the main threats. Generally looking at around a half inch to one inch of rain, perhaps even higher in heavier bands of rain and storms. A cold front will push through the area tonight. High pressure moves over the area Sunday into early next week, bringing a cool down and less humidity. Monday and Tuesday could be the driest days in terms of RH that we have seen in quite some time. Valley locations, as well as the VA Piedmont could even drop well into the 30s. Current forecast shows higher values at this time, but may need to adjust as confidence grows.
