A Marine Weather Statement has been issued for the following areas...

  Nearshore Waters from Winthrop Harbor to Calumet Harbor...
  Open Waters from Winthrop Harbor to Michigan City out to Mid
Lake...

At 712 PM CDT, NWS Meteorologists were tracking a thunderstorm 
capable of producing northwesterly wind gusts up to 30 kt and small 
hail. A waterspout cannot be ruled out, as well. The thunderstorm 
was located about 15 miles east of Lake Forest and was moving south 
at 35 knots. 

In addition, a front was moving south along the Lake Michigan shore 
to the west of the thunderstorm. A northerly wind shift with gusts 
up to 25 kt may occur with the front away from the thunderstorm. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher
waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor
immediately until this storm passes.
