FXUS62 KFFC 161849 AFDFFC Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 249 PM EDT Fri Oct 16 2026 ...Afternoon Area Forecast Discussion... .KEY MESSAGES... - Mostly dry conditions will persist for the next 7 days. - A Wind Advisory is in effect through noon Saturday for portions of north and northeast Georgia. Gusts up to 35-40 mph are possible in the wake of a strong cold frontal passage. - The first near-freezing temperatures (<35F) of the season are possible for the terrain of northeast Georgia Sunday morning. && .SHORT TERM... (This afternoon through Saturday) Issued at 245 PM EDT Fri Oct 16 2026 A broad, strong cold front situated along the leading edge of a digging mid-level trough is progged to sweep across the state this afternoon through tomorrow morning. At the time of writing of this AFD, temperatures in northwest Georgia are in the low-to-mid 80s, and 3 counties to the northwest -- just across the GA/TN border in Bedford County, TN -- temperatures are in the upper 50s (!). Patchy light showers and drizzle have developed within the cloud shield on the backside of the front, and low-end (15-25%) chances for an isolated shower will filter across portions of north Georgia this afternoon. Most will remain dry. A stout surface pressure gradient will develop in response to the enhanced forcing, supporting the development of breezy conditions areawide. Widespread gusts up to 25 to 30 mph are possible, with a Wind Advisory in effect for portions of north and northeast Georgia to highlight increased chances for gusts up to 35 to 40 mph from late this afternoon through early Saturday afternoon. An important consideration as winds tick upward: for areas that experienced increased tree damage from the glancing blow from Isaias last week, any partially-downed trees or loosened limbs will be more easily dislodged at lower-than-normal wind speeds. Be mindful, and be sure to secure any loose outdoor furniture or holiday decorations. PWATs will plummet post-front (<0.5", sub-25th percentile climatologically), with clear and dry and markedly cooler conditions expected on Saturday. Morning lows will be crisp if not chilly for some, in the 40s to 50s. Highs will struggle to get out of the 50s for portions of northeast Georgia, staying solidly in the 60s to near 70 elsewhere. && .LONG TERM... (Sunday morning through next Thursday) Issued at 245 PM EDT Fri Oct 16 2026 Crisp Start to Sunday: A dry and relatively cool airmass will remain across the area on Sunday, courtesy of stout N/NE flow on the backside of a stacked low over the Carolina coast. Low temperatures Sunday morning will be the coolest so far this season, with widespread low to mid 40s. One exception will be across the North GA mountains, which could fall to the mid 30s or even near freezing in the coldest spots. Temperatures will slowly increase throughout the day under sunny skies, but will struggle to climb out of the mid to upper 60s. Between the cooler temperatures and slightly breezy northeast winds (10mph gusting to 20mph), the feeling of Fall will be in full effect. Dry with Gradual Warming Next Week: Guidance remains in relatively good agreement on the forecast for much of next week, with a closed mid-level low parked over the Carolinas. North and Central GA will remain on the dry side of this system, with rain chances near zero. Temperatures will slowly warm each day, but remain right around normal, with highs generally in the low to mid 70s, and overnight lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. && .AVIATION...
