A Rangeland Fire Danger Statement remains in effect through 7 PM CDT this evening for near critical fire weather conditions. Gusty north winds will continue through the day. Sustained winds are forecast to gradually trend weaker through the evening and nighttime, but gusts in the 30-40 mph range are expected to persist through the rest of today with potential for gusts in this range continuing through 8 AM Saturday. Minimum relative humidity is currently bottoming out at about 30 percent this afternoon. Dry post-frontal winds will reduce moisture recovery relative to previous nights and keep dew points low, but cool overnight temperatures near 50F should enable recovery of relative humidity to near 70 percent. Winds are expected to continue weakening after sunrise on Saturday, but gusts up to 25 mph will remain possible Saturday afternoon under similarly dry conditions compared to today.
