Chances for showers and thunderstorms increase from west to east later this morning through this evening. Some storms could be severe. Outside of thunderstorms, today will be warmer but more humid, with southeast winds around 15 to 20 mph and minimum humidity around 40 to 60 percent. Warm weather continues on Monday, but a frontal boundary moving in from the west will shift winds to the west-northwest and usher in a much drier air mass. Sustained winds across western North Dakota are forecast to increase to 15 to 25 mph with gusts around 25 to 35 mph Monday afternoon, strongest in the northwest. Minimum humidity is forecast to fall under 30 percent along and south of the Missouri River in western North Dakota, and could fall as low as 20 percent from the Badlands to the southwest corner of the state. This combination of wind and humidity could result in near- critical fire weather conditions in parts of western North Dakota Monday afternoon. In central North Dakota, humidity will remain much higher and winds will be lighter through Monday afternoon. A few severe thunderstorms could develop in central and eastern North Dakota Monday afternoon and evening. Tuesday will be slightly cooler, but with stronger northwest winds around 20 to 30 mph and gusts to near 40 mph. Most of the state is forecast to see minimum humidity remain above 35 percent on Tuesday, but areas from around Beach and Medora to Bowman and Hettinger could fall closer to 25 percent, which may result in another afternoon of near-critical fire weather conditions. For mid to late next week, winds are not forecast to be as strong as on Tuesday, but there could be breezy conditions at times. Daily minimum humidity is forecast to generally remain in the 25 to 35 percent range across the western half of the state.
