Today will be slightly warmer, but still seasonably cool with highs around 50 east to 60 west. Winds through this afternoon are forecast to range from light and variable in the west to northwest around 15 mph in the James River Valley. The minimum humidity forecast for this afternoon ranges from around 25 percent in southwest North Dakota to near 50 percent in the James River Valley, with 30 to 40 percent across northwest and north central parts of the state. Wednesday will be warmer and windier, with highs in the mid 60s to mid 70s and southerly winds ranging from around 10-15 mph along the Montana border to as high as 30 mph and gusting to 40 mph between Highways 83 and 281. The lowest humidity of around 20 to 25 percent is expected south of the Missouri River in western North Dakota and extending to areas south of Lake Sakakawea, along and north of the Knife River. The rest of western and central North Dakota is forecast to see minimum humidity around 30 to 40 percent on Wednesday. At this time, it does not appear there will be sufficient overlap in strong winds and low humidity for near- critical fire weather conditions, but any slight adjustments in forecast values for each could change that thinking. Thursday and Friday will feature higher daytime humidity with medium chances for showers and a few thunderstorms. Southerly winds remain strong in south central and eastern North Dakota on Thursday, but relax on Friday. Much warmer temperatures and windy conditions at times could increase fire weather concerns early next week, but that will be dependent on the state of fuel moisture.
