Near critical fire weather conditions are expected this afternoon through the early evening. Low RHs expand across the southwest on Saturday, though lighter winds over the southwest will keep conditions sub near critical for now. Clear and dry weather is found across the forecast area this afternoon. Highs in the mid 40s to mid 50s are expected, warmest across the west. Minimum relative humidity is forecast to drop as low as 20 to 25 percent over the far southwest this afternoon. With the gusty south to southwest winds, sustained around 15 to 20 mph and gusting as high as 30 mph, near critical fire weather conditions are expected over far southwestern North Dakota through the afternoon into the early evening when humidity values are expected to rise. Minimum relative humidity is expected to be over 30 percent elsewhere. Overnight max humidity recovery is expected to only be as low as 50 percent in the far southwest, and greater than 60 percent elsewhere. On Saturday, warm temperatures are expected with highs mainly in the mid 60s to mid 70s, with a southwesterly wind around 10 to 20 mph. Humidity values drop into the teens to lower 20s over southwest North Dakota, mainly mid 20s to mid 30s elsewhere. The strongest winds are expected to remain displaced to the north and west of the driest areas, thus sub near critical fire weather conditions are currently anticipated for Saturday. We will continue to monitor forecast trends overnight. Sunday will see cooler temperatures in the wake of a cold front which is expected to pass through overnight, with highs in the mid 50s to mid 60s. Minimum humidity values are expected to be in the mid 20s to lower 30s over southwest North Dakota, 30s to lower 40s elsewhere. Winds will be northwesterly around 10 to 20 mph.
