FNUS63 KABR 150717 RFDABR Rangeland Fire Danger Statement National Weather Service Aberdeen SD 217 AM CDT Thu Oct 15 2026 .DISCUSSION... Behind a cold front passing through today, winds turn northwesterly and increase. Strongest gusts will be over central and north central South Dakota this afternoon, up to 45-55 miles per hour at times. A Wind Advisory is in place for all counties west of Brown and Spink counties. Strong winds will linger into the overnight Thursday and early morning Friday time frame, shifting to be over northeastern South Dakota and western Minnesota. During that time, wind gusts upwards of 40 miles per hour may still be possible. Drier air behind the cold front will take hold, but afternoon humidity will remain above 45 percent across the forecast area. Still, the strong winds are enough to create High to Very High Grassland Fire Danger this afternoon for counties west of Brown and Spink.
