DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 PM HST (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Moke was located near latitude 15.3 North, longitude 157.3 West. The depression is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue during the next several days. On the forecast track, the center of Moke is expected to pass south and southwest of the Big Island of Hawaii tonight, then well south of the smaller main Hawaiian Islands tonight and Monday. Recent satellite wind data indicate that maximum sustained winds are now near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Continued weakening is forecast, and Moke is expected to degenerate to a remnant low pressure area by Tuesday. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches). WIND: Gusty winds are likely across the Hawaiian Islands during the next couple of days, especially in areas of high terrain. RAINFALL: Tropical Depression Moke is expected to produce additional rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches through Monday across the Big Island. Rainfall totals of 3 to 6 inches of rain are expected on eastern Maui. These rainfall amounts may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides for the windward and southeast Big Island, especially in steep terrain and over areas that were affected recently by Lala. Across western Maui and the remainder of the islands, moisture drawn northward from Tropical Depression Moke may bring up to 1 or 2 inches of rain. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Iselle was located near latitude 17.1 North, longitude 115.3 West. Iselle is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue through Monday, followed by a gradual turn toward the west-northwest on Tuesday. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next day or two, and Iselle could become a strong tropical storm Monday night or early Tuesday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Iselle will affect the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula beginning Monday.
