This is true for everyone visiting the beach, not just those venturing into or near the water. The forecast wave heights presented here are considered experimental. When headed to the beach, always remain vigilant and keep an eye on the waves and currents. * A sneaker wave is a wave running up on shore significantly further than any other recent wave, such that it is a surprise to the casual observer. Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water in the surf zone, flowing outward from shore. * This product is issued once per day after 6 am, with no updates. 405 FZUS53 KGRR 231341 SRFGRR Surf Zone Forecast for West Michigan National Weather Service Grand Rapids MI 941 AM EDT Sun Aug 23 2026 MIZ037-232100- Mason- Including the beaches of Ludington State Park and Stearns Park 941 AM EDT Sun Aug 23 2026 ...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING... .REST OF TODAY... East-facing shore surf will build today in response to strengthening trades. Surf along east and south-facing shores will be impacted by a short period east southeast swell generated by Tropical Storm Moke as well as northeast wind wave swell as a result of these stronger trades. As Moke passes by to the south through Monday, the southeast swell will veer and become south to southwest. This small, short period captured east fetch from Moke may push Big Island east surf to near advisory levels later today. Surf along most south-facing shores will be slightly below summer norms but still remain somewhat elevated due to a lingering small, long period south southwest swell. A three to four foot, medium to long period south swell is expected to arrive Monday and Tuesday which will maintain these near summertime heights. Small, medium to long period west to north swell originating from Hurricane Lala is passing around north and west-facing coasts today.
