The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a



* Flash Flood Warning for...

  Southwestern Wayne County in southern Utah...



* Until 445 PM MDT.



* At 148 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing

  heavy rain across portions of Capitol Reef National Park, including

  Sulphur Creek, Upper and Lower Spring Canyon, Cohab Canyon, Grand

  Wash, Capitol Gorge, and Pleasant Creek. Up to 0.5 inches of rain

  have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin

  shortly.



  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing

           flash flooding.



  SOURCE...Radar indicated.



  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, slot

           canyons, and normally dry washes.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Capitol Reef National Park, Fruita, Caineville, and several slot

  canyons including Sulphur Creek, Upper and Lower Spring Canyon,

  Cohab Canyon, Grand Wash, Capitol Gorge, and Pleasant Creek.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.



Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry

washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a

matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.



Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where

you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become

killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or

creeks.

  Northeastern San Miguel County in southwestern Colorado...



* Until 445 PM MDT.



* At 152 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing

  heavy rain in Sawpit. Between 0.8 and 1.2 inches of rain have

  fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 3 inches in 1 hour.

  Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.



  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing

           flash flooding.



  SOURCE...Radar indicated.



  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,

           urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.



* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...

  Sawpit, Fall Creek and Placerville. This includes Highway 145.



PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...



Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood

deaths occur in vehicles.



Highway 145 between Placerville and Sawpit is prone to rockslides and

mudslides in heavy rain. Stay alert for rocks and debris on roads,

and avoid driving on flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
