Winds this morning will generally be calm with a variable wind direction when some wind arises between 2-5 mph. Winds today should generally be around 5-10 mph but there is some uncertainty in direction. For the morning to early afternoon, most guidance favors southwesterly to southerly but there are signals for winds to rotate towards late afternoon (after 3 PM) to southeasterly. Given the very diffuse surface pattern today, there is a high likelihood of localized terrain impacts to wind speed and direction, so there is the potential for trends to begin to shift. As such, if conditions change drastically, please feel free to call the office for an updated spot. On the relative humidity front, with the recent rains, mixing today should not be as extreme as we saw last week. For this reason, the reasonable worst case scenario relative humidity is a brief period of upper 20s. The most likely range will be closer to 30-35% at the burn location. For tonight, there is pretty decent agreement that wind directions will become more south-southeasterly but speeds will begin to increase towards the 5-15 mph range. Recovery in humidity should get at least above 60% at a minimum by midnight. More likely, it should get to the 70-80% range for a brief period Thursday morning. .THURSDAY... Winds this morning will be variable in wind direction and around 5 mph. You should start to see winds beginning to become southeasterly by 10-11 AM this morning and once they settle on SE, it will generally remain from the southeast to south through the day. Wind speeds will pick up as well by afternoon and the burnsite is right on the edge of where the higher winds will be in eastern North Dakota. Speeds should generally range between 15-20 mph sustained with gusts approaching 25-30 mph at times, but those higher thresholds are more likely to be confined to North Dakota. Relative humidity today is a bit uncertain thanks to the recent rains we had. Because of the recent rain, there isn't an expectation at this point for significant mixing bringing RH down to the 20s, so the current thinking is the reasonable lowest will be in the low 30s. The most likely minimum relative humidity this afternoon is roughly 33-37%. Recovery tonight will depend on overnight temperatures but will rise to above 60% by midnight. Winds remain elevated through tomorrow with only small variances in wind direction change. .REST OF TODAY... Sky/weather.........Mostly sunny (25-35 percent). Max temperature.....Around 65. Today will be drier compared to the last few days. However, Lake Superior will help to limit RH dropping below 40 percent. The lake breeze is expected to move out from Lake Superior 11-Noon, which will cause winds to quickly switch from the northwest to the southeast. However, winds will remain less than 10 mph during this switch since a high pressure will be in place. Thursday will be more windy out of the east to northeast, but the lake will once again keep RH from getting below 40 percent. .TODAY... Sky/weather.........Mostly sunny (30-40 percent). Winds are going to be light with a variable wind direction this morning but will eventually increase from the south by early afternoon. You may start to see winds increase from the south as early as 11 AM, but with how light winds will be by then it looks more likely there will be some variation in direction between 10 AM and 2 PM. Once winds finally settle on southerly, speeds will increase to between 10-15 mph at 20 ft, with occasional gusts approaching 20 mph. Recent rainfall should prevent relative humidity from diving as far as we saw last week, and the most likely minimum relative humidities will be generally 30-35%. There may be a brief period mid to late afternoon where relative humidity falls to the upper 20s and some patches of 25% may also arise, but this should remain fairly isolated. Winds will continue to increase from the south through the evening and overnight hours with relative humidity recoveries approaching 70-80%. .REST OF TODAY...
